Welcome to my blog. My name is Dr Dimple Radia, and I am a dietitian, researcher, academic and owner of a street food business called Mumbai Mix. I hope that by defining my career roles, I can express in some way how passionate I am about food and learning about its impact on our health. I don’t have any catchy stories to share about my journey into this arena. On the contrary, my story is a blissful journey where I have loved being around food since I was young and have always felt grounded within the heart of my home – the kitchen.

I have been supporting people with their diet and health in various capacities, and I have seen first-hand how our food systems affect our choices and, ultimately, our health. Making choices to improve our health has never been so difficult because everything around us deviates towards less healthy behaviours. Global and national statistics show that we are living less “healthy" lives both in our younger and older years.

The impact of our food system and the choices we make goes far beyond our current and future health—it also significantly impacts the stability and sustainability of our planet. Through my academic and research channels, I regularly come across data and statistics that stress the critical juncture that we are at in defining the future of our planet and our younger generations. Without a doubt, it is a sad and depressing outcome.

To date, I have simply acknowledged and accepted our food environment for what it is. But today, I am taking a stand and building this profile to give people an evidence-based reality check and raise awareness of the following fact: Dietary patterns that are good for our health are also good for the planet! The problem is that we are just not making food choices that support our health and our environment!!

Our food systems need to change, and I am entirely aware that the food industry and governmental agencies significantly influence supply and demand. However, the optimist in me feels that it is time for a bottom-up revolution—a revolution powered by education, awareness and informed choice, where we determine the supply and demand of the foods we choose to nourish our bodies with.  Using my experience in hospitality and my knowledge of nutrition, I will use this platform to share nutritional facts and the latest evidence on human and planetary health, provide practical strategies on how we can make an impact and tap into my creative side to showcase how food can be fun, tasty and nourishing for us and our planet! I am excited about this journey and look forward to supporting you in making sustainable and positive food choices that will benefit your big and small world.
